Succession: Garlic and Cucumbers

I planted garlic back in late October, allowing it to overwinter, and now I'm pulling it up in mid-July (all of the mulching you see is from grass clippings that I bagged from mowing my front yard, which I then allowed to dry out before applying). Anticipating this bed opening, I make little mounds of compost in the garlic bed in mid-June and plant cucumbers from seed. By the time I am harvesting my garlic, the cucumber plants are just about ready to take over the bed:

Rather than trying to trellis them, I let them spread and try to direct them a bit. The only difference I've noticed is that the side of the cucumber on the ground is discolored, but the crunch and flavor does not seem to be impacted. Plus, it saves me a lot of work and infrastructure cost, while also suppressing weeds.
Excitingly, a couple of these mounds contain seeds that I collected myself from last year's cucumbers. I'll take some pictures of the resulting fruit and then post a video for how I collect them in the fall.
