Greetings!

Hey, I'm Bryan.

Times are tough right now, but there is a community of people attempting to chart a brighter future (see recommendations for a non-exhaustive list). For me, I get to grapple with politics, culture, and history as part of my day job, then go home and think about a resilient food system while I get my hands dirty in northern Vermont soil. To fully process what I read, I need to write about it, so anything written here is a work in progress rather than a finished product. I’m also, very slowly, working on an MA in History. I intend to complete a thesis around local agricultural systems in order to put my practices into context. Posts will be a mix of on-the-ground practice from my quarter acre plot and theoretical ideas from anarchism, food sovereignty movements, and agroecology. If anything you read here makes you want to reach out, please do so and I will do my best to get back to you (no guarantees, especially during the academic year).

What is Silver Maple Farmstead?

This is the unofficially official name of my backyard agroecology project and home bakery. While I study the history of Vermont's landscape, it also feels essential to participate in the global agroecology movement to the best of my ability. By providing affordable food to neighbors, field-testing ecological techniques for local food production, and writing about my efforts in proper historical context, I hope to offer something of value to anyone that stumbles upon this website.

Sponsors

I have none. If I ever mention a product, or you see a brand name in the background of a photo/video, it's something I'm actively using, but certainly not promoting.

Supporting this project

I strongly believe in open-source content, therefore I will never charge you for anything. Down the line, if this site become popular, maybe I will open up ways to support it monetarily. However, that support will be entirely voluntary based on if you find it valuable, not because I have put up a paywall. This project will always be Bryan-supported and possibly member-supported one day.

The best way you can support this project right now is to subscribe by typing in your email below. That at least let's me know there are people out there that value this content. No pressure.
